Prof. J. H. Garnett, president of Western College, Macon, will deliver the address to the class.
Prin. Williams of Garrison, says, "The class of 1908 is especially fortunate in securing the services of Dr. Garnett, as he is a very prominent educator and lecturer and at this time of the year he is generally very busy. He is president of the Missouri State Negro Teachers' Association and for several years held the chair of language in Lincoln Institute, which he resigned to accept the presidency of Western College, Macon. The first baccalaureate sermon to a class of Garrison graduates will be delivered to the class of 1908, Sunday, May 24th, at 11 a.m. at the A. M. E. church, and music will be furnished by the Garrison school choir, under the direction of Miss Almyra Longdon, who is also the accompanist for the commencement. The baccalaureate sermon will be delivered by Rev. W. F. Botts of Carrolton, who is conceded to be “one of the best and most entertaining negro pulpit orators in the state.”
The teachers are striving to make this commencement the best of all and no pains are being spared to insure its success.
