Osceola, NE High School Class of 1904 Graduation
Fourteen Graduates—An Interesting Program—Interrupted by a Fire.
OSCEOLA, Neb., June 12.—(Special)—The annual commencement exercises of the Osceola High school were held in the opera house at this place last evening. It is the first time that the building would not seat all who desired to be present, but last night many were turned away, not even being able to secure standing room. The stage was decorated in a beautiful manner and with the class of fourteen seated thereon, together with the gray haired members of the school board, it presented a pretty appearance.
The class is the largest which has ever finished the course in these schools and will rank fully as high as any. The following is a list of the members:
Hattie Henderson, Hertha Bailey, George Mesker, Blanch Hickey, Hulda Weintz, Ottie Blan, Charles Detweller, Bessie Lyman, Gertrude Clime, Clyde Osborne, John Hendersen, Georgia Anderson, Bert Garringer and Herman Welch.
During the progress of the exercises the fire bell was rung and almost roused consternation among those present. The fire proved to be William Stokes’ chicken incubator and chicken house, which were totally burned up. The loss was about $800.
