PUBLIC SCHOOLS OF THE CITY.

The city has eleven School Districts, fifty-two Schools, and about forty-five hundred pupils. In all districts are permanent schools, forty weeks per year. District No. 2, embracing the central portion of the city, has seven brick houses, with accommodations for thirty-one schools, and six wooden houses, occupied by ten schools. No. 10 has two houses, in which are four schools. No. 11 has two schools and one house. The remaining districts have each but one house and one school.

Established in 1846. Lowell, corner Chestnut Street. William W. Colburn, Principal. Salary, $1,200. Miss Harriet R. Baker, $500, and Miss Emeline R. Brooks, $400, Assistants.

SOUTH GRAMMAR SCHOOL.

Established in 1846. Franklin Street. Josiah G. Dearborn, Principal. Salary, $1,100. Misses Lucretia E. Manaban, $325, Hannah A. Slade, $325, Rebecca B. Gove, $275, and Miss Perkins, $275, Assistants.

NORTH GRAMMAR SCHOOL.

Established in 1848. Spring Street. Frank W. Parker, Principal, Salary, $1,000. Misses Sarah E. Copp, $325, Emma A. H. Brown, $325, Augusta C. Gile, $325, and Hattie A. Barnes, $275, Assistants.

PARK-STREET GRAMMAR SCHOOL.

Established in 1846. Re-established in 1863. Park Street. Thomas Corcoran, Principal. Salary, $1,000. Miss Mary Scholastica, $300, Assistant.

INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL.

Established 1851. Manchester Street, corner Chestnut. Isaac L. Heath, Principal. Salary, $800. Miss Martha B. Dinsmore, $325, Assistant.
